FAQ

Common questions

Something not covered here?

What is a LIR?

A Local Internet Registry (LIR) is an organisation authorised by RIPE NCC to distribute IP address blocks and ASNs to its customers within the RIPE region (Europe, Middle East, Central Asia).

Do I need my own ASN to use an IPv4 block?

Not necessarily. You can use a /24 block routed through our ASN. However, if you want full routing autonomy and multi-homing, registering your own ASN is recommended.

Is the IPv4 space Provider-Aggregatable (PA) or Provider-Independent (PI)?

We assign Provider-Aggregatable (PA) space under our LIR membership. This is fully portable within RIPE-registered networks and suitable for most use cases.

What happens if I stop the subscription?

IP resources remain registered to your organisation during the subscription period. If the subscription lapses, resources are returned to the LIR pool per RIPE NCC policy.

How long does ASN registration take?

After documentation is submitted, RIPE NCC typically processes ASN assignments within 2–3 business days. We handle the submission on your behalf.
